# Create Provider

> Creates a new provider record. Providers must be created before they can be enrolled with payers.

This endpoint allows you to create a provider record with the details required for [transaction enrollment](/healthcare/transaction-enrollment).

All providers you create through this endpoint are also available on the [Providers page](https://portal.stedi.com/app/healthcare/providers) in Stedi for you to review and manage.

## Contacts

You can add one or more contacts to a provider record. When creating an enrollment request in Stedi, you must select one of these contacts as the primary contact. However, if you plan to add enrollments through the [Create Enrollment](/api-reference/healthcare/post-enrollment-create-enrollment) endpoint, you can provide the primary contact in that request instead.

The payer may reach out to the designated contact with updates or questions about the enrollment. If you’re a provider, this should be your information. If you’re a vendor representing a provider, you can submit your contact information instead of the provider’s information.
